DMZ

There’s been only a few comics series in the entire history of the 9th art that succeeded in so many different fields as DMZ. I might be stating the obvious but it’s really hard to ignore how solid and absolutely realistic the story is, I love the art and the characters will be stuck in my head a long, long time after I’ll be done reading it, and guess what, there’s a new story arc beginning this April with part 1 of the 5-part “Friendly Fire”. What do you mean you don’t know what DMZ is? Allow me then:

7225_400×600.jpgIn a grim near future the United States are shattered by a second civil war, and the island of Manhattan is the demilitarized zone none of the opponents can take over. In the middle of the non-stopping fire between the US government and the Free States militia there’s a young reporter, Matty Roth, who finds himself where news are created by mistake, and grabs the chance to make a difference. It’s not the conventional story of a young rebel opposing the system and winning, oh no, this is something else. Manhattan, aka the DMZ, is a brave new world created by a new breed of people fighting to survive and express themselves, in the anarchy and mayhem created by forces these people can’t control they manage to find what positives there might be and speak their minds freely, making the DMZ a better place to live, even better than the safe United States outside of it.

In the new story arc beginning this April with issue #18 Matty finds himself interviewing an enlisted U.S. soldier who’s found guilty of a massacre within the DMZ.
“What follows is a look at how the DMZ came to be, from the perspective of a kid who came from the Midwest and walked right into a nightmare” (from the official Vertigo site).
I don’t know about you but I’m thrilled!1.jpg –>
